Time To Buy Your Tickets!

Juneteenth is not only a federal holiday commemorating the end of slavery, it is a celebration of community. It is a time where we can reflect on how hope and freedom shape our lives, our struggles and progress as a nation, and our interdependence and resilience. In St. Joseph you will be able to celebrate and reflect in many different ways starting Saturday, June 15.

Although there are many fun events and ways to gather planned, we especially encourage you to buy tickets for and attend the premiere of Walk on Water at the Missouri Theatre on June 19 and 20. The play is based on a book authored by local resident Gary Wilkinson which recounts in part the history of his family, and their experiences with slavery and release. The curtain will rise at 7 pm and the performance will last about two hours. Come learn more about our history, strengthen the bonds of community, and reflect on what challenges and inspires us as we observe Juneteenth together. Bring a friend!
