Building Social Trust

The Aspen Institute’s Weave: The Social Fabric Project has used census data to calculate “trust trait scores” for neighborhoods and communities across the US using census data. You can view the “Social Trust Map” for various areas of St. Joseph here (scroll down and enter your zip code).

The project measures three areas that reflect Social Trust: Trusting Behavior which includes volunteering, involvement in local groups, and attending community events; Trusting Intentions which means how we feel about each other, and Trusting Spaces which refers to spaces in which we can connect with each other.

Social trust is ultimately defined by our relationships with others and how well we work together. As you scroll through the Social Trust Map you will find many inspiring stories of individuals making a difference in their communities. As you scroll through your neighborhood and others in St. Joe, think about what we are doing and what more we might do. Share your ideas and we will reflect them in future posts.

The Social Trust measures are the essence of what inclusive, interactive, and involved neighborhoods look like. When communities/neighborhoods share ideas, spaces, and resources, they become stronger. They build networks that speak to the concerns of its citizens.
